This distinctive and quite impressive piercing is done right on the antihelix of the ear. It is located above and slightly back from the tragus; parallel with the daith.

With the rook, the piercing itself is done in a vertical orientation, with a single needle and taper. The vertical orientation allows both sides of the curve or hinged segment hoop, to be displayed properly.
